Movin’ Along

I got my butt moving on Sunday evening and did 30 minutes on our indoor rowing machine, burning roughly 236 calories (I only had it on 40% difficulty; I will amp that up as I get back into the swing of things.) It’s a far cry from Justin’s 1,000+ calorie burning long road cycling rides, but it’s a good start and something I can do late at night when I can’t enlist anyone to watch Sara. As it was, I had to wake Justin up at 10:40 PM so he could watch Sara while I showered, since she’d been asleep in her downstairs swing for over an hour, and I wasn’t about to wake her up to put her in her crib (with monitor) upstairs. That turned out to be a wise idea, because she slept for over 3 hours in the downstairs swing last night before we migrated upstairs to bed!

We’ll be buying me a road bike soon, but it’s so damned hot and humid I admit I haven’t exactly raced to the bike shop with Justin to pick out my road bike yet. We’ve done an occasional ride around Hollywood Park (nearby subdivision where Justin’s parents live) on our mountain bikes, but I miss hitting the trails. With the extra weight I’m carrying, though, I just don’t feel that agile to rip up some bike trails anytime soon.

Which brings me to the indoor rowing machine workouts. My aim is to do 25-30 minutes on the rowing machine 5 times a week for several weeks and see how that helps my energy levels and underlying muscle tone (under all the flab, that is). Then I’ll feel more like hitting the trails and/or picking out a road bike for 15 to 35+ mile rides with Justin. So far, I’m only two workouts in to my rowing machine schedule but it’s working out well when I do it in the late evening.

I can’t wait for cooler weather so Justin and I can take Sara on her first camping trip, and enjoy our first camping trip together in years. We used to camp about once a month when we were dating and newly married, and I want Sara to grow up with camping trips being something to look forward to as well.
