A Year With Sara

You might think the title of this entry is in error; after all, Sara is not yet five months old. On this day, one year ago, I found out I was pregnant. It would still be months before I knew “Sprout’s” gender, but from that moment, I started imagining what life would be like with this new being.

First things, first, though… I went to Target and bought some supplies to announce the news to Justin. After being together for nearly 18 years, and married for nearly 8 of those, it seemed anti-climactic to just verbally tell him. (And, yes, we were planning this, but it’s still a pleasant surprise when you discover the miracle of life actually has occurred!) I bought a dozen (supermarket) roses, wrote a short letter, and created a cardboard sign to greet him when he got home from work –

So, one year ago today, I discovered I was a Mom. We are still getting to know Sara, but I’ve “known” her for 365 days as of today. And you know what? She’s everything I dreamed and imagined, and more.

Justin’s special “one year” anniversary, the day he discovered he was a Dad, is tomorrow — August 4. I know he feels the same way I do. How couldn’t we? Just look at this adorable being 1/2 of our genetic materials combined to create –
