Hybrid, First 10k Miles

I’m a little late in noting this (Hello, infant in the house!) but better-late-than-never:

Our 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid has ticked over its first 10,000 miles. Specifically, as of midday on August 9, 2007, she had logged 10,813 miles on the odometer with a lifetime miles per gallon (LMPG) 32.6 MPG, logged over 28 tanks of gasoline.

That’s not quite the EPA estimate, but I tend not to be as tender-footed a driver as the “hypermiler” breed of hybrid owners. It’s still slightly better fuel economy than I got in my 1992 Toyota Corolla sedan, which was nothing to sneeze at (30 MPG), for its generation of vehicle. And, of course, this is an SUV.

My entire tank-by-tank MPG dataset is available online via GreenHybrid.com, and I have no plans to stop logging that data.

I am, however, now 800+ miles overdue for my next scheduled service (time for another tire rotation and oil change.)

We purchased the vehicle on March 6, 2006. Do we still love it? You bet! The only thing I’ve ever regretted about the Ford Escape Hybrid is that we bought it before the 0% financing offer was extended beyond California and the District of Columbia. But, hey, the single year tax credit of $2,600 was sure nice for this year’s tax refund!

Nice. Keep use posted as to your satisfaction of the Escape Hybrid. Currently we’ve moved from the mini-van to the Honda Pilot (both about 20mpg average) for our family vehicle. (wanted that 3 row ‘real’ seat and ability to tow a trailer)

My biodiesel powered VW Jetta TDI is doing great. Just put on another set of tires and am looking forward to continuing my lifetime average fuel economy of 44.6 mpg. I also enjoy spirited driving and find it hard not to used the additional power provided by a chipped ecu and larger injectors. A male curse … as the ‘old’ Tim “Taylor” Allen would say: “More Power.”
