A thread for reference in diagnosing our BROWN HOT WATER that comes out of all of our taps now, as well as the all connected appliances. Our first thought was the hot water heater had gone kaput, which we seriously don’t want to deal with right now; but, thankfully, there are other possibilities that hopefully are less severe and less expensive to resolve. The color is VERY noticeable if you fill a sink or the bathtub with hot water.

Cold water is fine.

This just started after our recent emergency maintenance work – high pressure valve failed and was replaced, a hot water expansion tank was installed on our hot water heater (to bring it up to City Code) and our water softener was replaced.

Ewww… I bathed in rust last night? (At least, I hope it was rust and not something else. Oh man… I can’t even go there.)

Good thing Sara’s baths are lukewarm and sans bubbles………
