Net Essentials
Justin’s been sick since last weekend. He received a diagnosis and prescription on Monday, but after no relief he saw another doctor today. After an EKG and frankly better treatment than he received from his primary care physician, he left with a new diagnosis (Pericarditis) and prescription. Hopefully, he’ll feel better before the day is out. He’s had one previous episode of pericarditis, about 11 or 12 years ago, which cleared up with anti-inflammatory meds.
Anyway, with a sick spouse at home I’ve found myself surfing and sleeping more than usual. My work-at-home status this week is questionable, since only the “at home” part has been evident — “work”, somewhat absent (or done absent-mindedly, which produces the same result.)
What I have been productive in doing is locating interesting links. So here’s the first installment of “Shannon’s Net Essentials”:
First, the entire BBC family of websites is worth perusing if you have not done so in awhile. Educating, intriguing, good stuff. So, first up is the BBC’s Human Body & Mind Surveys. Each survey is interactive and takes between 5 to 20 minutes to complete. My favorite survey? Spot the Fake Smiles (I got 15 out of 20 correct, but found it more difficult than anticipated.) If you tire of the surveys, try your hand at the Interactive Body. Do you know which way your spleen faces?
Also from the BBC, Britain Goes Wild, the companion website to a weekly hour-long documentary currently airing on British Television. Any site with nature webcams is cool in my book. (Thanks to Dad for the link — this one’s getting added to my Wild Texas Web Guide!)
