Finding Humor in the Decidedly Un-Funny

Reposted from my vox blog (geekgal.vox.com).

From an IM exchange with Justin after I alerted him to the fact that my mom’s vehicle was broken into sometime overnight or this morning, despite being locked with its alarm activated in their lighted driveway. Sadly, I was the one to discover it (see tweet) when I pulled into their driveway after learning my dental appointment had been canceled.

Justin: Unbelievable…and sad.

Shannon: Very. I think their deductible is 1k so they’re hosed on the garmin
The camaro windows are very odd. In retrospect they look very easy to pry down and or off track

Justin: Point them to that Nuvi 660 I just bought - its 50% off and around 350 with a ton of features.  Yeah, the high deductible sucks but is still the right decision for older vehicles…
Sports cars are notorious for being easy to break into

Shannon: Spoken like a true former claims rep
Told dad abt nuvis. They also took cds. Nothing else we can tell
They opened her glovebox and went thru it. Should she worry abt if they got her name and address from insurance cards? (They didn’t take it)

Justin: Not really since there is nothing you can do about it - plus they were probably in a big hurry and didn’t look

Shannon: Gotcha. Was thinking identity theft.

Justin: Two different kinda thieves there heheh

Shannon: True I guess that assumes more diversification on the part of criminals than is likely!
