One Year Well-Baby Checkup
Reposted from my geekgal.vox.com blog –
I’m not in a blogging mood, but Sara’s one year well-baby checkup went well and she’s doing awesome of course. One year without any illness–rock on, chicklet! She has either ringworm or nummular eczema (Her pediatrician wrote that down for me–I guess I had “gonna be Googling this ASAP” written all over my face when I asked him to repeat it.) I suspected ringworm, but honestly I’ve had ringworm and it didn’t quite fit the bill so I’m relieved it might be eczema that youngsters get. Ringworm (fungus) is so damned hard to kill/treat.
Discoid eczema (aka nummular e., exudative e., microbial e.) is characterized by round spots of oozing or dry rash, with clear boundaries, often on lower legs. It is usually worse in winter. Cause is unknown, and the condition tends to come and go.
Anyway, I posted (to Flickr & vox) a bunch of Blackberry pics from the waiting and exam rooms and our trip home, since Justin took the morning off to accompany us (he’s been to every single one of her first year checkups, which is good because when baby-wrangling I have very selective hearing!)
Sara’s stats as of today — she’s long and lean — 19.5 pounds (20%) and 31 inches long (75%!)
