Dreams are What Life’s Made of

Justin is a licensed private pilot with an instrument rating, meaning he can fly in clouds, relying only on instruments for navigation. I don’t say it enough publicly, but I am and always have been extrememly proud of his achievements in aviation and, more importantly, his attitude about seeking to fulfill one’s dreams. It is just another way Justin inspires me, every day. I love my guy!

So after a month or so of not flying with him due to rainy weather, Justin and I made a daytime flight down to Corpus Christi, Texas, on Saturday, July 3rd. We brought all our camera gear, though that should come as no surprise. The focus of the trip was the journey, more than the destination, however. It’s just fun flying down to the coast — relaxing, freeing, FUN!

The best way to capture the moment is to quote Justin’s own words:
We departed San Antonio International Airport with a thick overcast layer of clouds over the city. At 5,000 feet, our cruise altitude, we basked in bright sunny skies once we emerged from the clouds. We had a blast!

I fell in love with flying immediately after joining Justin on his first few flight training flights — back in early 2001. Now that he’s completed his instrument training, I’ve fallen in love with flying in, among and through clouds as well as photographing them. Before the year is over, we’ll have a new website launched to feature our aerial and aviation-related photography. It’s a natural adjunct to our outdoor photography website, relaunched at the end of May.

Anyway, some of the aerial photographs I took during the flight are featured on Justin’s NoticeToAirmen.com website at:
IFR Trip to Corpus Christi

You can also check out the GPS track of our flight if you’re curious. GPS is a tremendous asset in the air, just as it is on the ground. Not only does it serve as a redundant navigation tool, it’s also damned fun to have a visual log of your flight when you return home!

Hope everyone had a wonderful Independence Day weekend. Don’t work too hard, and always keep your sights on what matters — family, friends and dreams!
