Day 66: Going All Directions
5 PM: The past couple days, I’ve been attempting to help Justin plan and pack for his trip to the Sun ‘n Fun Fly-in in Florida. In this case, “helping” equates more to lovingly “nagging” him — as in, “I’m dropping you off at the airport at 4 AM on Tuesday, right? Wouldn’t now (Saturday, Sunday, Monday) be a good time to think about packing? No, I mean actually sitting down, drawing up a list and starting to make piles of what you’ll be taking?” So that’s what we did yesterday afternoon. I left him to his own devices around 2 PM — he was knee deep in our Federal Income Tax Returns (another item I’d felt compelled to lovingly nag him about.) When I arrived at my parents’ place, my Dad was doing their taxes, so this is definitely a “guy thing!”
The method to my madness is to alleviate one giant crash of stress in the hours before Justin needs to leave tomorrow, though it’s hard to convice anyone (even myself) of the merits of spreading stress out so it’s less potent but is present 24/7!
The truth is we haven’t taken a real trip of any kind since 2001, and there’s this latent “I wish I could go with you” feeling I have, although I’d just be in the way thanks to my still-healing but nowhere near 100% post-op knee!
I think we have the camera gear situation pretty well in hand finally, though I’ve never had so many challenges packing a camera bag before. We were worried about the carry-on weight limit, but the loaded camera bag (one EOS 1D MarkII camera body, 4 lenses, 1 doubler, all our memory cards, a backup battery, etc.) weighs a little over 16.5 lbs. That’s how much our “expensive cat,” Blanco, used to weigh before his surgery!
Justin’s running errands and I’m back at home icing my knee and catching up on things. I walked 3.65 miles this afternoon, including (I won’t tell, if you won’t) about 1.5 miles of off-trail hiking without my brace. Needless to say, I took it at a snail’s pace anytime my feet left the pavement, but it felt terrific. My right shin is the only complaint I have, and that seems to work itself out after about 2.5 miles of fast-paced walking. I’ll attend PT tomorrow morning, perhaps earlier than usual since I’ll already be up from having dropped Justin off at the San Antonio International Airport; then another independent gym session on Wednesday and Friday. The way I feel right now (terrific), I could attend everyday, to be honest!
That’s all for now.
