Memory Maps

I’ve been having a little fun with Google Maps, especially the satellite images. I’m too lazy to sign up for Flickr just so I can do this properly, however:

My elementary school in San Diego, CA – Rolling Hills Elementary
The school is a square with open-air corridors and an open courtyard, which I ran through, bleeding from a gash over my eye, after a redheaded boy loosed a rock in my general direction. My first stitches and first scar.

My would-be bike ride from (roughly) home to that elementary school
We moved before I was old enough to be allowed to arrive on campus on my bicycle. Yes, I’m still hung up on that fact! :) I should note the area we lived in has changed dramatically in the 26 or so years since we lived there! For one, I don’t think there was a highway anywhere near us. Frankly, I’m surprised the school’s still recognizable.

U.S. Space Camp, Huntsville, Alabama
I attended a week-long session there when I was 14. The first Space Shuttle distaster, the loss of Challenger on lift-off, had occurred just 2 years prior (1986).

Randolph Air Force Base
My stint as a U.S. Navy civilian contractor, working on a U.S.A.F. base. Probably the best view I will ever have from an office window — fighter jets taking off and landing, and new recruits taking their swim and water rescue/survival tests in the summer! ;)

Stinson Municipal Airport
Where Justin received his flight training and obtained his Private Pilot license (Single Engine, Land). He later obtained his Instrument Rating.

San Antonio International Airport
One of the airports we routinely fly in and out of on our General Aviation flights, with Justin as PIC (”Pilot In Command”). Oddly enough, my PT clinic is practically on the airport grounds!

“Shamu Statium” at Sea World of San Antonio
Where I spent many an afternoon and evening during the summertime when I was in high school. Too bad I wasn’t earning a paycheck for all the hours I spent there! ;)

John Marshall High School
Since I mentioned my high school… It looks pretty much the same as it always has. I graduated in ‘92.

Downtown San Antonio, including the Riverwalk, the Alamo (”Shrine of Texas Liberty”), Hemisfair Tower, the Institute of Texan Cultures, and the Alamodome, as well as various hotels and more…
Since we’re playing satellite tourists, I had to throw this one into the mix!
