Day 81: Less is More

Less is definitely more… Namely, less knee-related entries here equals more of my life back to normal.

I haven’t attended my independent PT since Thursday, but I’m getting plenty of exercise between my walking and “low impact” hiking (avoiding steep or slippery trails, going very slowly and limiting my total mileage). I did 2.9 miles yesterday, 2.4 miles of which was hiking on flat but rocky ground while wearing my hinged brace. The past couple days, I’ve done some more gardening — planting dianthus, more salvia and Mexican heather, cosmos and coleus. I bought a large, brick red glazed “strawberry pot,” and between hefting that and two large bags of garden soil in and out of my car and around the yard, I worked plenty of muscles that needed exercise.

I have several “to do’s” that are waiting on our finances before I’ll pursue them — a gym membership and a couple of nice, new bicycles so Justin and I can share a healthy, no-impact exercise.

Nothing else to report… Life’s good, and pretty much back to normal, other than not being “legal” yet to do some real hiking with some weight on my back/shoulders and more miles underfoot than I’ve dared to tred off-trail until I’m cleared.

I drop Justin off at the airport again tomorrow morning, this time for a one-day conference in Boulder, Colorado. We originally attempted to make it a “fun” trip for both of us by covering my airline ticket and the cost of a couple extra days in Colorado (home of my favorite park, Rocky Mountain NP), but corporate travel arrangement hassles precluded that. Also, I figured I would be tempted to do too much, too soon on the knee if I hit RMNP’s trails before my 16-week post-op mark when I’m OS-cleared to resume real hiking.
