Hypothesis: Life is good.
Proof:
A long overdue flight with Justin on a beautiful (OK, albeit horrendously hot,) Texas summer day…
Taking my first air-to-air photos after a chance encounter with one of Justin’s aviation buddies (a U.S. Air Force instructor pilot and a Certified Flight Instructor).
A wonderful 10-mile bike ride with Justin at McAllister Park, albeit after our abort at Guadalupe River State Park, where Jus took 3 bad falls in the first 2 miles {Not a beginner’s trail, afterall!}
Finally getting my new bike rack successfully mounted to my ‘92 Corolla so I can do some mid-week solo rides to continue my knee rehab and exercise.
Watching episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space 9 with my parents and brother, and more episodes (beginning Season 5, now!) with Justin.
Hearing back from an old friend from my past, 24 hours after emailing her. And on the same day, locating and writing an honest-to-goodness letter to a high school friend whom I just tracked down after too many years.
Today, celebrating the 5 months post-op anniversary of my new, expensive knee!
And, besides, it’s Independence Day — the Fourth of July — that’s worth a point or two of sheer goodness. Blowing up things for no good reason… celebrating America, indeed! Although, the humor falls a bit flat when interjected with some reality: God Bless Our Troops!

Please don’t take on advanced trails before you two have some experience under your belts.
Better yet, try to find a local club that puts on beginners rides. I learned so much from riding with experienced riders. Its “just a bike” but there are alot of little tricks to riding it without killing yourself.
I use the excuse of “acl therapy” for going on long rides guilt free. I wonder how long my wife will go for that excuse.
have fun

Thanks for the well-timed advice. We were lucky I wasn’t the one who went down three times (or even once), given that’s the last thing a 5-month post-op knee needs! Justin got scraped and bruised a bit, but nothing major, thankfully. Sadly, I have a habit of forgetting just how rocky that particular (Guadalupe River SP) trail is — it’s almost too rocky to even hike comfortably.
Until Justin and I are at the same skill level in terms of balancing on the bike, bike control, etc., we’ll stick to beginner trails together. I feel steadier on the bike than he does, but I too will be more careful. No sense undoing all my OS’s hard work, nor mine for that matter (PT, etc.) And we’re certainly not up for the medical bills, all over again. Geesh!
