While checking Wikipedia, I just discovered that long-time ABC News anchor Peter Jennings died yesterday. His cause of death — lung cancer. Damnable, highly preventable illness. R.I.P.
Added Later: Jennings said he quit smoking 20 years ago, but admitted that he “backslid after 9/11″ — four years back on the “deathsticks” and he is dead.

In Space Shuttle news, the Discovery’s payload bay doors are now closed and latched! The Flight Director is now polling Mission Control officers for their next “Go”/”No Go” decision point, the “Ops 3 transition” — flight control software used onboard the Shuttle during landing. (Result: We are a ‘Go’ for transition…)
