Dearly Beloved… Nerd

Apparently, I was either snoring loudly this morning or thoroughly nested with pillows all around me, because Justin let me sleep in when his flight got delayed due to low clouds and some radar returns (storms). I half-remember mumbling to him, from beneath an aforementioned pillow, “Wake me up if you still decide to go flying,” but I was still in total hibernation mode when he woke me up again (does it count as being woken up if you never open your eyes, and you’re back to sleep in 15 seconds?) to let me know he was heading out. It’s 8:39 AM now and I finally crawled out of bed, refreshed but a little bummed I didn’t get myself up earlier to join him. I think he said he was going to do some practice IFR (Instrument Flight Rules — what pilots use when visibility is poor) approaches at Castroville Municipal Airport New Braunfels Municipal Airport.

And this tiredness? I didn’t even wake up an hour before sunrise, as I’d mentioned. Since Justin got up without any problems, I blame the odd sleep schedule I kept earlier this week due to STS-114.

Added 11 AM: Bummer, the aircraft Justin rented for this morning’s flight has a radio problem — any transmission Justin made bled over all the departure airport’s (San Antonio International Airport) frequencies, much to the dismay of the ATC (Air Traffic Controllers) there. An in-operative radio = a “no-go” decision for Justin… Poor guy! Sometimes his luck runs this way when it comes to flying… if it’s not rain, it’s rental aircraft maintenance issues that keep him grounded. Of course, it’s cheaper than maintaining one’s own aircraft, that’s for certain! ;)
