Well, Damn!
I just found out COMDEX is dead.
There was a time in my life when I would have given up a kidney to go to COMDEX! And that was before I took biology and knew we’re born with two kidneys, so one’s a “spare”!
COMDEX was the place to be if you were a geek/nerd/social misfit. Sometimes, I wonder why they bothered with the beautiful women leaning against the blazingly fast XT and AT processors, waving glamorously at the new crop of modems and BBS programs, offline mail readers, door games and callback verifiers. Everywhere you turned, the language was pure GEEK.
Well, that’s how I always imagined it when I read about it from older SysOps (System Operators) who attended, or in Boardwatch Magazine articles.
… This whole entry is probably a bit confusing to all but those of us who know the difference between the sound of a 2400 baud modem and a 14.4kbps or faster modem as it handshakes and connects. And who could forget those init strings? ATE1V1X3… yikes, there’s still a part of my brain reserved for that crap?! No wonder I can’t remember where I put my shoes most of the time!

I’m surprised you didn’t call this entry “No Carrier.” =)
It is funny, isn’t it? I can’t find something I know I had in my hands an hour ago… but to the day I die, I’ll still have all this BBS arcana locked away in my head.
