Geek’s Christmas
I agree with my brother, these are also my kind of Christmas decorations! The song is “Wizard in Winter” by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. I tracked down the lighting display’s owner via Google, per his comments:
Unfortunately, I don’t think I (or my neighbors) would get much sleep with 100 million candlepower worth of lights blinking on and off in my yard, accompanied by a suitable outdoor sound system to ensure everyone knew just how much work had gone into syncronizing the lighting with music.
But since when are geeks always practical? Sometimes, things have to be done just to prove (or disprove) a hypothesis, no?!
It’s a very good thing I don’t have the kind of expendable income that would lead to purchasing some of the prerequisites for a display like that!

Someone sent me the “Wizards of Winter” and it wasn’t that easy to track down the origin. Did find an article on the music itself by the Trans-Siberian orchestra, but yours is the first to actually address the light show itself. Thanks!

FYI, there is no sound linked to the display, i.e. outside speakers or such. Music is low power broadcast FM radio, and sign in yard tells visitors where to tune radio to.
The show and video are *not* ‘computer generated’; the show is real, the video is real. The show is synchronized and run via a computer … big difference.

I stand corrected on the outdoor speakers comment — there was nothing in the owner’s post (which I linked) that indicated how visitors/viewers experienced the sound. My original comment about being glad I don’t live next to a house that blinks that many lights still stands, however.
Further, I can’t find anywhere that I said the show and/or video are computer generated. I’m aware of, in theory if not in practice, how such a show is created and produced. I even link to some of the equipment (see link “prerequisites”) one would need to purchase in order to set up lights in a way that could be synchronized in various ways.
In short,
Happy holidays. Now, chill. It’s *not* the time to get *so* intent on correcting others that you miss the *fun* of something. I applaud the lighting display and its owner. I’m a geek and I think it’s awesome. ‘Nuff said.
