Meme Withdrawal

I know I’m several memes behind the curve — my brother tries to keep me in the loop with emailed ones, and I hadn’t responded to them yet. :(

The latest meme to cross my screen, thanks to my brother’s blog, is What Action Hero Would You Be? When I read that it’d characterized my brother as Captain Jack Sparrow, I knew it was worth checking out. If ever there were a modern Captain Jack Sparrow, I do think my brother fits the bill! Now, if only he sailed… Hell, he even has a sword! ;)

Me? I’m apparently schizophrenic, since I’m a three-way tie between Indiana Jones, Captain Jack Sparrow and Maximus. This explains a lot! :) :) :)

The one the meme chose for me after the tie-breaker was Indiana Jones
“Indiana Jones is an archaeologist/adventurer with an unquenchable love for danger and excitement. He travels the globe in search of historical relics. He loves travel, excitement, and a good archaeological discovery. He hates Nazis and snakes, perhaps to the same degree. He always brings along his trusty whip and fedora. He’s tough, cool, and dedicated. He relies on both brains and brawn to get him out of trouble and into it.”

Maximus 79%
Indiana Jones 79%
Captain Jack Sparrow 79%
Batman, the Dark Knight 75%
Neo, the “One” 75%
Lara Croft 63%
The Amazing Spider-Man 58%
The Terminator 58%
William Wallace 54%
El Zorro 42%
James Bond, Agent 007 38%

Hmm… I don’t mind snakes, and I don’t believe I’ve ever met a Nazi. I own neither a whip nor a fedora. Danger is something I avoid, though not at the expense of living a fulfilling life with some adventure.

Still… Some of my best memories and stories are of “tight scrapes” I’ve been in — heat stroke in Palo Duro Canyon at the peak of summer; hiking a little too close to an unseen alligator; standing on the bow of a boat at full throttle in rough swells, in January (2005), with a severed ACL and torn knee cartilage (I didn’t know it was that bad at the time, although the fact that I could barely walk was a good clue.) I also appreciate history and “old things” and “old ways”. As for brawn, I’m neither incredibly strong nor incredibly weak, just incredibly persistant.

Who would have thought? Mine came in as William Wallace.

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to all.

    William Wallace, indeed!

“The great Scottish warrior William Wallace led his people against their English oppressors in a campaign that won independence for Scotland and immortalized him in the hearts of his countrymen. With his warrior’s heart, tactician’s mind, and poet’s soul, Wallace was a brilliant leader. He just wanted to live a simple life on his farm, but he gave it up to help his country in its time of need.”
