Friday the 13th

I believe the Universe actually had a glitch yesterday, serving up all of the Friday the 13th crap a day early. Proof? Mount Wannahockaloogie (ours), and bank b.s. (over at Darn-Tootin.com)

On this date last year, which incidentally wasn’t a Friday, but should have been, I missed the last step on our stairs while carrying a loaded laundry basket. Sexy, right? I couldn’t get up — which as you grow older you find isn’t one damn bit funny. My knee really hadn’t felt quite right ever since my first fall, in November of 2004 — an equally sexy dismount from a folding ladder on to the sloping, wet grass in our front yard. I’d been trying to do some tree pruning. Yeah…

Who knew laundry and gardening were so dangerous, painful and expensive!? I try to do as little of either as possible, these days! (Kidding!)

Who knew a simple fall would open the doors to at least a full year of blog-worthy content regarding my knee health? A fun-filled year of knee surgery (ACL reconstruction, partial meniscetomy, and meniscus repair), physical therapy, and medical bills.

P.S. Those medical bills? Apparently, they’re one of those gifts that keep on giving, because the ambulatory surgical center I stayed at for 23.4 hours in February 2005 has decided we still owe them over $980. WTF? Neither of us have been in the right mood to call them, yet. I’m afraid I’d actually say, “WTF!?” I suspect they think all their patients are senile and are suitable candidates for the “double payment plan.” That, or their computer wonks in the billing department well and truly SUCK, and cut bills in January 2006 as though it’s January 2005, nevermind that my surgery wasn’t performed until February 4, 2005 (which was, incidentally, a Friday… ;))
