What’s this Intarnet Thing, Again?
Someone please tell Dick Cheney to actually visit web addresses he feels compelled to share on international TV broadcasts, please? FactCheck.org , not FactCheck.com.
I’m sure he already got an ear-full from the Bush-Cheney campaign leadership, but still… He’s truly lucky the owners of FactCheck.com chose to redirect their site to an anti-Bush site rather than a, well, pro-bush site (use your imagination). It’s a good thing no one asked him what the URL to the White House is (HINT: It’s not a .com domain!)
We all make mistakes. Once, I sent a co-worker to a porn site accidentally when they asked for the URL to our local Zoo. They got a zoo website, alright, but not at all the kind I meant to direct them to — and certainly not one any sane person would linger on for more than 5 seconds, especially in a buttoned-up office environment.
Still, it was an internationally televised broadcast — a debate, no less — so rehearsal should have been the name of the game. It would have taken 5 seconds (or however long it takes Cheney to type) to validate the URL he intended to mention was in fact 1) the correct website and 2) ready for the monumental onslaught and ensuing bandwidth charges that come with mentioning any URL on cable news channels.
And these are the men we let lead our country?
I’m sure Kerry’s no better, but to be perfectly honest I haven’t really been paying attention. They’re all just talking heads to me. When any of them speak, I hear that “Whahhh wha whaaa-whaaa” babble that fills in for any adult voices in Charlie Brown cartoons.
