Back from Austin

It’s been a whirlwind 36 hours. Yesterday, March 15th, was moving day for my brother, Thomas, so I text messaged Mom and Thomas around 11 AM with, “Anything I can do to help?” And help, I did. Thanks to movers, as well as Mom and I, Thomas is now successfully relocated to his North Austin town home. Things didn’t reach a stopping point until after 1:30 AM, so Mom and I spent the night at his new place, and then hit the road around 10:30 AM to crawl in less than 10mph traffic on the “outskirts” of Austin for over one hour. The cause? An apparently high-speed rear end collision that obliterated two full-size “semi’s”/trucks. According to the Austin American-Statesman’s article (bugmenot), the drivers of both semi’s survived and were in reasonably good condition, which comes as a surprise as well as a relief. Neither truck looked like the impact was even remotely survivable.

I’m back at my home preparing to either take a nap or, as odd as it sounds at 7:30 PM, go to bed.

Random:

I followed a Toyota Prius (hybrid sedan) on my way home from Mom & Dad’s house this afternoon. It’s my first hybrid-sighting in San Antonio, although I admit I’ve only recently learned the hallmarks of the various hybrid makes/models. While we were in Austin this morning, Thomas pointed out a “hybrid” parked next to us in an HEB parking lot. The vehicle was a couple-years’-old Ford Taurus, and the logo was indeed Ford’s “leaf and road” logo, but it was paired with the letters “FFV” indicating it’s a Flexible-Fuel Vehicle.

Thomas, welcome to your new home! You did great! Now, get some rest when you can (we will!)
