Mom Update III
Leave it to us to take three cars to meet Mom at the hospital when a little planning would have reduced that number to just a single vehicle that had to pay for parking.
In the span of 3 hours time, Mom had Thomas, myself and Dad all drop in and stay through her dinnertime.
Dinnertime actually meant something today — Mom had her first real meal this evening! Turkey, mashed potatos, a garlic bread stick, cherry pie and ice cream. Dad, Thomas and I were so hungry we might have arm wrestled her for it, but better behavior prevailed. She ate a fair portion before some nausea returned. We will see what another day and additional meals have in store for her condition. We suspect the nausea may just be due to her body going, “Whoa, what’s this, FOOD? I haven’t had any of this in awhile!”
In response to Justin’s comment a couple days ago, comparing the IV racks patients wheel around at all times to “totems” Indians and “witch doctors” carry, Thomas (ever the talented artist!) brought various crafts materials with him and decorated Mom’s IV rack. Her totem alternately gets smiles and appreciative nods or clueless “What does it do?” comments from the harried and/or non-spiritual of the staff.
