Car Porn?

I have this weird fascination with seeing photos of totalled new vehicles, like this totalled Ford Escape Hybrid, and the remnants of Joaquin Phoenix’s FEH.
Call it an appreciation for the laws of physics and the engineering that goes into modern vehicles to create a “survival capsule” where the human occupants reside. Call it armchair rubbernecking, if you like. It’s just one of those, “Wow. Just … wow!” things.
Incidentally, I found both links while getting my hourly fix of GreenHybrid.com’s discussion forums. It seems I’m not alone in this “(totalled) car porn” behavior, particularly if it’s the same make/model/year as one’s own vehicle — “There but for the grace of God go I…” Sad thing is other than, you know, the horrific accident damage, you can absolutely tell that vehicle was brand new and freshly detailed just prior to the accident. :’(
One odd detail: The airbags didn’t deploy in that first FEH I mention, and yet the damage to the vehicle is extensive. Did it fall off a transport truck or something? Get rear-ended at high speed and pushed into another vehicle, all while being parked with the key not in the ignition? The “I wonder what could cause that… ” thought process seems to be part of the whole fascination with the images, actually. I mean, c’mon, you have to wonder how THIS happened!
