Second OB Visit

Justin and I discovered yet another flat tire on my Ford Escape Hybrid this morning before heading to our second OB visit (11 weeks 4 days). Somehow, I am attracting all manner of debris in my hybrid — windshield rock strikes: I, punctured tires: II. Sigh. Another trip to Jordan Ford is in my immediate future, to get yet another tire patched.

We took Justin’s pickup to the doctor’s appointment, rather than risking having to put my donut spare on in the parking lot of Methodist Hospital. After the flat tire discovery, I was already complaining that my blood pressure was going to be wonky when they took it at the doctor’s office. Wouldn’t you know, before seeing the doctor we had to meet the “Benefits Counselor,” which I joked was going to put my blood pressure through the roof. Oddly enough, my blood pressure’s splendid — 110/60!

The few tests I had taken at my first OB checkup all came back perfect, but the biggie is we got to hear our baby’s heartbeat! It sounded awesome and is a strong 170 beats per minute — 50 beats faster than our wee one’s heartbeat at the 7 week 4 day ultrasound. Before anyone asks, we forgot to bring an audio recorder so we don’t have audio of the “baby beats”. It took a couple moments for my OB to locate our sprout and pick up the heartbeat, and Justin and I confessed en route to the car that our heartrates quickened for that short period of time. Expectant parents, indeed!
Justin’s off the hook for the next OB checkup since it’ll be more of the same, but in November we have our next ultrasound and spy whether our sprout is a baby boy or a baby girl! {woot}

    Very exciting. I didn’t get to hear the heartbeat until 14 weeks but I had a second ultrasound at 10 weeks and saw the little bean doing flips in there. :) Our BIG ultrasound is on Oct. 10th – I can’t wait! Hope you are feeling well, the second trimester is much better.

    I’m so glad I was there to hear the heartbeat! My comment when I heard how fast it was…. “this sounds like me when I’m climbing a big hill on my bike!”

    And that’s pretty accurate! I typically get into the 170’s and lower 180’s on really big hills.

    I guess junior is destined to do some cycling with Mom and Dad!

    That “baby beat” is one of the sweetest sounds in the world! Pregnancy is such a miraculous ‘journey’!
