Embrace Life

I was just doing a little ego surfing through my trackbacks and stumbled across a fellow post-ACL reconstruction blogger. He’s over five months’ post-op and back to posting about other events in his life, which is an important milestone. One of his recent entries struck a chord with me. It’s about a friend of his who was paralyzed from the neck down in a car accident. We human beings are resilient, resourceful creatures, yet we are very fragile in many ways. As I commented to his entry, “Catastrophe is just an accident or bad decision away, and we all need to appreciate every day, every hour, every minute of our lives because we don’t know when the curtain call will be.” This salient fact is brought home all the more now that Justin and I are having a child.

One of Erika’s recent posts had a similar effect on me, but I didn’t know how to articulate it into a post at the time.

Celebrate and embrace life! There is no “rewind,” “pause,” or even “record” button, so you’ve got to make every moment count.
