2006 Ford Escape Hybrid (FWD) Recall
Thanks to my friends over at GreenHybrid, and email from a former co-worker (Thanks, V!), I’ve known about the Ford Escape Hybrid drive shaft recall for about a month:
I just checked the My Ford website and, sure enough, the recall affects my vehicle. I assumed as much since the initial announcements indicated approximately 6,200 of the 2006 Ford Escape Hybrids are affected, and that’s probably not too far away from the total number of FEH’s manufactured and sold this year! In actuality, the recall affects a subset of all 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) vehicles sold. Apparently, the All-Wheel Drive (AWD, aka 4×4) models are unaffected. Further, if you have a 2005 or 2007 Ford Escape Hybrid, this recall in no way applies to you, either. Here’s the relevant Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) regarding the recall.
If worse comes to worst, I get a new drive shaft installed free of charge and the factory warranty period on that part will get reset. While it’s nothing to sneeze at, many vehicle makes and models have some sort of recall; I’m not sweating this at all. I am proactive however, and have already scheduled my recall service visit for October 30th. The dealership said it’ll take about half a day for the recall work.
I’m lovin’ our hybrid and enjoy driving it so much I frequently volunteer to “fly” anytime a family member needs to run an errand.
In other news, check out this fuel efficient (all electric!) vehicle:

Tesla Motors Roadster, a sexy, 100% electric, 0-to-60 in 4 seconds, 135 MPG equivalent sports car. The bad news? Each costs a cool $100,000 excluding tax, title and license. Yeowch! The first 100 have already sold out, and only 100 more are being made. Well, pain never hurt quite so good! ![]()

:Cough: Well… I did say I would buy the first “decent” electric sports car off the line. Let’s see… can you even get a 20 year loan on a car?

I know you’re joking, but pilots often get around the lofty cost of their chariots by pooling funds with other pilots and buying just a share of an aircraft, eg. 10 pilots pay $XXX,XXX to purchase a million dollar aircraft none of them could afford individually. Then you put a calendar out there and the share owners pick which days they want to use the resource. Some luxury and exotic car clubs work this way, too. I would be surprised if none of these beauties ended up in such a car club, in fact. “Friday, I get the Tesla Roadster. Next Tuesday, I get the Lamborghini Diablo.”

OMG! The beginning of the write-up (and the photo of this beauty) had me thinking, “Well, maybe I would part with my ‘97 Camaro!” At that sticker price, The Lady is in nooooooo danger! LOL!
