Black Friday

And I’m staying very, very, very far away from any retail establishments today! It’s just shy of 3:30 AM here in Dallas, Texas, and from our hotel room I can see the back of a large shopping complex. There’s a growing line of people and cars already gathering in the parking lot, as if free life extension treatments were about to begin any minute. I’m not complaining, though — this could bode well for our return trip to San Antonio! If everyone is either A.) shopping or B.) still sleeping off all that tryptophan consumed last night, we might actually have a hope of driving home in less than 7.5 hours this time around!

BTW, I know a few people that WERE in line. Did they get what they wanted? Nope. So, what’s the point?!?!?!

Notice how people rush into the frenzy from the PARKING lot in this video….after having waited not a MINUTE in line! Sad display of humanity and our lust for THINGS…

Geeesh, that must have been exactly what it looked like in front of the Best Buy I was seeing from the hotel at 3 AM! Absolute insanity. Online shopping without getting sucked into the Christmas grab fest is soooo much saner, and probably ultimately cheaper.

“Why’d you buy this?” “Uhm, well, the other five things on your list were sold out in about 5 nanoseconds of the doors opening, and that was if you were willing to stomp and elbow each other to get to the checkout registers first!”

If it’s the “thought that counts” when it comes to the holidays, that doesn’t bode too well, does it — judging from the thoughts going through the folks in the crowds, I mean…
