Baby, Meet Daddy!

So, my 24 week pregnancy newsletter which I received this morning shared the delightful trivia that my uterus is now the size of a soccer ball! That’s freaky, but fitting since Sprout’s been having solo soccer matches in there these days! This week, she has had the hiccups, kicked me awake twice (last night), and yesterday evening, she finally kicked at just the right moment so Justin got to feel her with his hand on my belly! She gave a good solid kick/jab, too, just to be sure he knew she was there! Sprout, meet your Dad!

I’m doing well. I can still do most everything I’m used to doing, only slower… which explains why the Christmas tree has been up for about two weeks but remains undecorated, and why the only Christmas lights up are those on the tree and a lighted garland on our stairway bannister.

Anyway, I can’t believe it’s nearly Christmas… and our eighth wedding anniversary (Dec. 12th), and my birthday (33 on Dec. 28th.) In a matter of a couple weeks, it’ll be Sprout’s birth year already. No more mental excuses about her not arriving until next year!

Even though Sprout, or at least the idea of Sprout, is very much a part of our lives already, it is surreal to think this is our last holiday season as “just the two of us.” We have been spoiled, however, by a far longer run than most people have before they become parents — 18 years together, to be exact! And we wouldn’t change a thing! But with Sprout in our lives, everything old will become new again and we so look forward to sharing all of her firsts with her. Can you imagine, she hasn’t seen the sky… the stars… a flock of wild birds… touched a cat’s fur or fresh blades of grass… heard the sound of an airplane or even of her own voice. What an amazing amount of discovery she has in store for her! How can an adult not be humbled and awed by that reminder that the world really is amazing, if not always at the macro level then most assuredly at the micro level that we see before our own eyes in our own lives.

/wax poetic (prepare for a lot of that, I suspect! ;))
