Pure Orange Goodness!

Yeah, leave it to a pregnant gal to search for Orange Julius at 5:59 AM… :D

I’d lamented to Justin some time back that there was no longer a place to get an Orange Julius in San Antonio. Apparently, I was wrong — there is one location in Rivercenter Mall, a combination Orange Julius/Dairy Queen location that serves the much-loved concoction. We’ll have to visit and try it out sometime. It appears they have added more flavors since the 80’s, but I bet nothing’s as good as the original Orange!

Sigh, memories… I grew up on Orange Juliuses, always looking forward to grabbing one at Windsor Park Mall (nods meekly to Justin) back in the day. I thought you could still get them all over town, though — could swear I remember my sis picking one up for me at a Dairy Queen on Perrin-Beitel not long before I left… makes me sad if they are indeed dying out.

Ah well, you guys still have Blue Bell, anyhow. *longing sigh* =)

Wow. Orange Julius. That’s kickin’ it old sk00l. Beware though, it seems a little suspicious to me that at first you thought there were none nearby, but in a turn of luck, there is _one_ store left… near the San Antonio River. A river shrouded in mystery, as you know.

I’ll just say it: I think that store is actually some portal back to the 80’s… and I don’t mean the fun-loving, tall-haired, rolled-up jeans 80’s, but the scary Xanadu-like 80’s.

    Just… be careful.

An alternate is going to Starbucks and getting the vanilla frappuccino with two shots of Valencia. Same sort of taste. More expensive, but also more accessible at 6 a.m. ;)

I’m a little disappointed. The Orange Julius I remember had a devil as a slogan. Now, with DQ as the owner, there is not a devil one on the OJ site. I’m sure it was another one of those “let’s be politically correct” decisions.

    That just seems wrong.

(Oh, Xanadu! Olivia St. John! Memories!) heheh

Apparently, we can blame the old grumpypants at ASU for the loss of the devil logo and plastic pitchforks.

I have fond memories of OJ in the late 70’s/early 80’s, and it’s nice to see that they still proliferate in malls and movie palaces here in Vancouver, but I do miss the devil theme. Damned ASU… it’s not like there aren’t a thousand devil mascots out there anyhow.
