36.5 Week OB Checkup

  • Justin stayed home a half day to take me to my morning appointment, since I was not feeling well yesterday, beginning with cramps (not contractions) that kept me up from 2 AM onward. Frustrating thing about third trimester pregnancy cramps? They hurt, but you can’t time them, and they don’t make anything “progress”… :()
  • MY OB was running 1.5 hours behind schedule, with half her office out sick and some of her April due date babies coming early. Not really a biggie, considering she has 30 women due this month, just more waiting.
  • My blood pressure, weight, Sprout’s heartrate and such are all good.
  • My first cervical (aka internal) check was during this visit. I am not dilated at all (all feelings of pain/pressure/baby dropping to the contrary), and about 25% effaced/thinned out, which is also normal for 37 weeks…
  • Baby hasn’t dropped, per OB’s check… so that pressure down low I asked her about? Yeah, that’ll get worse.  Sprout’s head isn’t yet engaged in the pelvis, though she could’ve fooled me!
  • OB says average gestation is 39 weeks… no mention of potentially taking as long as 41.5 weeks. At this point, you take any good cue you can find, so if my OB can verbally shave off 2.5 weeks from a normally progressing, no-plans-to-induce pregnancy, I’m game.
