Happy Un-Birthday, Sara!
Today was Sara’s estimated due date (EDD), and instead we have a lovely pink little creature we have been getting to know for 2 weeks and 3 days already! Who knows when Sara would have arrived on her own if it hadn’t been for her mom developing the hallmark symptoms of pre-eclampsia (high blood pressure, swelling, etc.) Instead of uncertainty and a lot of time to stress and plan, our 37 week 4 day OB checkup morphed into “Do you have your bag packed?” and me being wheeled to the OR prep area for an elective C-section within 2 hours (our other option was induction, which can still result in a C-section due to fetal distress and other issues.) It was a wild ride that day, realizing March 15th would become Sara’s birthday, and making all the appropriate text messages while I was being admitted at the hospital.
There are some things that happened during our hospital stay that I wish we could change, due to the maternity ward being overrun with new moms and babies that day; conversely, there are some wonderful doctors (including my awesome OB/GYN), nurses and lactation consultants who really made a positive difference, and we’re grateful for each of them. We are blessed, and on this day — Sara’s very merry “un-birthday” — we give thanks to the forces and people that came into play to bring her safely and happily into our lives.

Shannon, just popped in to see if you’d had the baby yet. Congratulations! She’s beautiful. Sounds like you are loving every minute of it, which is good to hear! I’m 38 weeks today and still plugging along…getting pretty antsy!
