Introspective

My mind’s is in “power-saving mode” at this point (10:45 PM — what happened to being coherent until 3 or 4 AM?!), so I’m afraid it’s too late for me to post a meaningful tribute to our nation’s veterans, active duty personnel and those who’ve paid the ultimate price. They have, however, been on my mind a great deal lately and my thoughts are with them and their families.

This week marked several important dates: the fall of the Berlin Wall (Nov. 9, 1990), the U.S. Marine Corps birthday (Nov. 10, 1775) and of course, Veterans Day (Nov. 11, annually).

WTF?

A minority of pharmacists are denying to fill womens’ prescriptions to the so-called “morning after pill” and even the birth control pill, on the grounds the drugs violate their personal moral beliefs.

Now, I’m a free speech proponent, but when your free speech prevents me from my fundamental right to decide when and if I’m going to become a mother by filling a doctor-prescribed Rx for the birth control pill — you need to find a different line of work. NOW!

From Dana Reeve

Yes, it’s a form letter — no surprise, given the perhaps millions of emails the Reeve family received after the untimely death of their beloved Christopher Reeve. However, I wanted to share it because you know what, I was floored that I’d receive any response at all to the short condolence note I posted on the Paralysis Foundation’s website on the day Christopher Reeve passed away:

Reprinted without permission, but in the hopes that others will visit the Paralysis Foundation, read its materials and consider lending their support — financial or otherwise — to this worthy cause.

Bought ‘n Paid For …

Forgotten Realms Neverwinter Nights Kingmaker and Shadowguard modules — released this morning and already in sitting on my hot little hard drive.

I love the Internet! :)

Music

I have a new love in my life.

Game soundtracks.

The work of Jeremy Soule on “Icewind Dale” and “Neverwinter Nights” got me hooked, and now as I’ve been playing “Rise of Nations” I’ve fallen for the score used in that game, as well.

Unfortunately, it’s a little hit and miss finding the scores to games online. Amazon has a few, or else they’re categorized oddly, so it’s been difficult to fill out my collection. Sure, when you buy the game you get low bit rate samples of the songs, but after hearing a few songs sampled expressly for a commercial CD or DVD, I’m feeling a little cheated.

My thanks to Justin for editing the 500+ photos we captured during Saturday’s Lackland AFB “Airfest 2004″ Air Show. He has posted 53 images from the airshow on his NoticeToAirmen.com website. Enjoy!
