Back in the Saddle (Again)

“Hello, my name is Shannon, and it’s been one month since my last bike ride.”

This is a placeholder entry for today’s mountain bike ride with Justin at Hill Country State Natural Area in Bandera, TX. I’ll have more to include later, including our GPS track.

Total Distance Travelled: 10.17 miles

Keeping Myself Honest

I’ve been playing the usual mind games with myself over this, so I’m posting this entry to keep myself honest. That way, when Sunday comes around I can’t justify myself out of doing what I want and need to do just because of some misguided fear of being out of my element and not doing everything perfectly. (It’s no secret that I’m uncomfortable in new situations and when meeting new people; it’s how I’m wired, although I always strive to handle it better.)

P.S.

Since the Mustang GT is too beautiful for words, and I’d already spent the time to create high-res desktop wallpapers of my photos from this weekend, I just wanted to specifically mention:

The Mustang GT photos included in Sunday’s entry are covered by the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-No Derivative Works license. So, feel free to save them to your computer and use them for non-commercial use. Attribution, even if it’s just a verbal “I got these at GeekHabitat.com” is required; also, you may not alter, transform or build upon these in any way except to resize them to fit your desktop resolution.

Apple Store in the Alamo City!?!

Not that I have funds to spend at the place (Sorry, Steve, I’m saving up for a new PC, not an Apple!) but –

Welcome to the Alamo City, Apple! It’s about damned time!

Now, REI, will you open a store down here already? I mean, come on, you even have a store in PLANO! I know, I know… Plano’s basically a suburb of Dallas. Half of North Texas is a suburb of Dallas, and Plano’s only 24 minutes away from it, yet they get 2 stores. San Antonians have to drive 1 hour to get to Austin, and that’s not counting the time to adjust for culture shock (ours, and theirs! ;))

Spammers Suck

Even if you’re 99.9% sure your contact (email) forms are locked down, you’re getting probed by would-be spammers. Here’s some good reading.

There are many different, somewhat diverging philosophies on how to make these twerps stop wasting time and bandwidth on your site(s), but plenty of posts to get your gears turning.

Spammers are the world’s newest “oldest profession”… and I respect prostitutes a hell of a lot more than I’ll ever respect a spammer. Hell, at least prostitutes are providing a useful service and to consenting adults. Spammers? They’re just filthy flashers.

Did I mention that spammers suck?

Quickie Recap

I stayed up too late, and enjoyed sleeping in too much, so we cancelled Saturday morning’s bike ride… again. My fault. At least it wasn’t because my knee was sore or in any other way not up to par. My post-op knee is finally back to feeling as identical to my non-operated knee as it possibly can — in other words, no pain or sore muscles, unless I’m doing something like crawling around on the floor (playing with our cats — get your mind out of the gutter!) which puts too much weight on the bones-with-screws that comprise my post-op knee.
