Psychoanalyzing a Culture

French-born marketing guru and medical anthropologist, Dr. Clotaire Rapaille, puts “America on the couch”:

What do foreigners need to understand about the United States?
“That there are two sides here. It isn’t just Bush. America is a brand of democracy that is unique in the world. Americans are more anti-American than even the French are. We have nearly 300 million people here, and about 150 million are against Bush. If all 60 million French people are against Bush, it is a fraction of the opposition in the U.S.”
– Dr. Clotaire Rapaille, quoted in Newsweek

For Those Following the Saga

My letter to Mr. William Ford, Jr., went in the mail yesterday via U.S.P.S. Certified Mail, Return Receipt Requested. Northside Ford gets their copies on Monday or so.

I’m going to refrain from posting the entire letter. For one, it’s long and exceedingly boring if it’s not your vehicle and/or your problem (Hello, Northside Ford; Hello, Mr. Ford, Jr.!) Secondly, Northside Ford needs to read it when their copies arrive on their desks, not via the Internet… not that it would change their behavior at all at this point. :(

Toyota Hybrids Outselling Cadillac/Buick/Benz

“Toyota has ’sold more U.S. hybrids so far this year than Cadillac, Buick or Mercedes-Benz has sold cars.’”
“Toyota US Eyes Plug-In Hybrids, Ethanol Cars”, CNN Money

So much for hybrids (Toyota’s at least) being a flash in the pan! :)

Something That Actually MATTERS

Amid all my grousing about the horrific service I received at Northside Ford in San Antonio, Texas, it’s time for me to take a moment to talk about something that actually MATTERS:

Little Sammy, Erika and Jay’s baby boy who was born with congenital heart defects and underwent the first of three surgeries at just four days’ old, is today undergoing surgery #2. Please send love, kind thoughts, prayers and good vibes to the ‘Snazzy Family’. They are beautiful and an inspiration and a reminder to us all of what really matters… family and loved ones.

Discovery Has Landed!

Photos courtesy of NASA and Copyright © CNN
This landing was absolutely the most exciting Space Shuttle landing I have ever watched. As the Shuttle made its final descent, the NASA TV live video feed switched to the “Pilot’s-Eye View”/Heads Up Display (HUD) view onboard the Space Shuttle Discovery, and we watched as the Shuttle descended at a descent rate twenty times faster than that of a commercial airliner. That means Space Shuttle pilots have to make descisions and perform actions twenty times faster than a commercial airline pilot.

Discovery, Good News

Discovery (STS-121) is coming home this morning. Mission Control - Houston just called them up and reported:

Good news, Discovery. The thunderstorms north of the field are no longer a concern. You are ‘Go’ for deorbit burn!”

Space Shuttle Discovery will be landing at 8:14 AM CT at Kennedy Space Center (KSC), Florida.
