SOOOOOOOOOLD!

The ‘92 Toyota Corolla is sold! It was official as of yesterday. I made sure I was scarce, as I probably would have burst into weepy, sobbing tears at some point. The car’s gone to a good home and, in a way, it’s still in the family; the 25-year-old son of an extended family member bought it so he’d have something safe to drive around Dallas (where he attends college) and ferry him to/from family visits in San Antonio.

Still, it’s a little sad not seeing her in the driveway when we’re both home and realizing she’s gone for good!

1992 TOYOTA COROLLA DX

Sadly, we are selling her very soon. She’s been a wonderful, wonderful, and again, most wonderful vehicle. 30 MPG on average.

Oh what memories!

She Has …

  • Been down-island at Padre Island National Seashore, all the way to the start of the 4×4-only accessible section.
  • Slogged through mud on a birding trip to Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge.
  • Been on numerous camping trips throughout South and Central Texas.
  • Been out of state on occasion, including several trips to Arkansas, Colorado and others.

Much-Belated Photos

Photos from Mom and Dad’s 39th wedding anniversary, celebrated at the Hangar Hotel in Fredericksburg, Texas. The Hangar Hotel and Airport Diner are located on the field at Gillespie County Airport, so Justin and I flew in on Saturday, July 22, 2006, to treat Mom & Dad to an anniversary breakfast. All of the photos were taken by Justin, my ever-talented husband and partner in crime.

I’ll let Justin post the “mirror image” versions of these photos, which Mom and Dad took from the balcony of the Hangar Hotel as we approached, landed and later did a short-field takeoff to depart back to San Antonio International Airport.

Global Warming

“… U.S. emissions of carbon dioxide nearly doubled from 1960 to 2001. Carbon dioxide is the main greenhouse gas blamed for global warming. Vehicles and industrial plants, particularly coal-fired power plants, are major sources.

Texas leads a group of 28 states that more than doubled their global warming emissions during that period. The Lone Star State produces more carbon dioxide than any other and would rank seventh in the world if it were its own country.

And our word for the day, kids, is slacktivism.

Fun Times Redux

Nothing like having one of your primary revenue-earning websites offline for hours… and your geek blog where you vent …

Oh, yeah, I’ve already posted that.

Well, today’s been a repeat of the same, except this time my visitors were greeted to the ever-so-charming “This website has been Temporarily Suspended.” Lovely. Just terrific for my advertisers to see that. And two of the homepage ads are up for renewal, but I wouldn’t even know if the advertiser has paid yet because my email’s been down as well.

Another San Antonio Hybrid Owner!

Congratulations, Pam, on your new Toyota Prius!

That makes three gals, including myself, who used to work together and who all went the hybrid route. WOOT! :D

Time to track that fuel economy on GreenHybrid’s Real Mileage Database. Mine’s shown at the top of GeekHabitat.com. Needless to say, it’s going to take a lot more tanks before the roadtrip to/from Dallas (headwind both ways, I swear!) and the summer heat are trounced by my more fuel efficient driving habits I’ve been learning. I’ve had a few tanks surpass EPA estimates, and the 59 MPG trip of 2.7 miles that I have yet to beat, so I know it’s got EPA and better in its future.
