Pure Aural Goodness!

Thanks to assimilating Dad’s music collection on Saturday via the aforementioned 300GB external hard drive — Our MP3 collection is now a staggering 86.07 GB or, in iTunes parlance, 44.3 days of continuous music represented by 15,150 songs (it’d be more songs, but my preferred format is 320kbps MP3.)

I’m not sure when I’d ever have a need for even 2 days of continuous music, although once Sprout’s born I might reassess that statement!

{Note to Dad: these totals are accurate; that’s with the over 6 GB of duplicated songs in our two collections removed!}

Territoriality

I slept lousy last night, finally getting out of bed at 3 AM to give Justin some hope of sleeping without me tossing, turning , walking and cussing (everytime I trip over something en route to or from the bathroom).

I holed up in our computer room/office until Justin woke up around 5:45 or 6 AM, throwing more music on our 300GB drive in its new Vantec external hard drive case (storage for our more than 65GB MP3 collection).

A World Gone Mad!

I have not really followed the evolution of personal gaming consoles — the last one we purchased (and still own) was a SEGA Dreamcast. That said, I know the graphics and other capabilities of the systems have advanced quite significantly since our Dreamcast was the very short-lived darling of the industry. And, yes, the PlayStation 3 does look like it will rock your socks off, BUT…

People standing in line for more than 3 days on the off chance they will get one of the 400,000 units Sony made available nationwide?

A $700 retail-priced system easily going for $1,000-$4,500 on eBay the day after launch?

I’m a Hybrid!

How am I a hybrid, you ask?

I go into power-saving mode anytime things slow down, and I get an extra jolt of power anytime my internal combustion engine kicks on.
And this relates to my pregnancy, HOW?

After delivering some items to my Mom by 8:30 AM for her to deliver to an open house, I returned home and rummaged through the garage, locating some old waterproofing stain we’d used a couple years ago on our backyard deck (which needs to be restained, also!)

DING! DING! DING!

(That’s the sound of bells for successfully reaching the halfway point in this pregnancy… yes, friends, pregnancy lasts TEN months, not NINE… just one of the evil tricks the medical community plays on us!)

I’m feeling good, and baby is doing good as well. We have another look at her at 28 weeks for another ultrasound to make sure my placenta has moved out of its “low-lying” position, where it was found to be at my 17 week 4 day ultrasound. Compared to the accompanying graphic, my placenta is currently low-lying, near my cervix, and positioned in the front.

Pregnancy = Pin Cushion

Ick. I just read about the glucose screening test I have to have done between 24 and 28 weeks gestation. (It’s a normal precaution; I don’t have a history of diabetes but enough women develop gestational diabetes that the testing is part of most OB’s standard care.)

Excerpt:

“… you’ll be given a sugar solution that contains 50 grams of glucose. The stuff tastes like a very sweet soda pop (it comes in cola, orange, or lime flavor), and you have to get all of it down in five minutes….

An hour later (bring a book or magazine!), your practitioner or a technician will take a blood sample from your arm to check your blood sugar level. The idea is to see how efficiently your body processes sugar. Results should be available in a few days.
