Favorite Children’s Books

Shortly after I discovered we’re having a baby, I splurged on a bunch of children’s books thanks to a $100+ Amazon.com gift certificate I’d been saving. The following is a list of all the books I picked up, and a couple that were given to me as Christmas or birthday gifts last year (yes, baby was on the brain, already!)

What are we missing? If you have a favorite children’s book that you don’t see listed here, chime in! We will soon start reading to our little girl, since anytime after about twenty weeks into pregnancy, the baby’s ears have matured enough that they can start hearing sounds from outside the womb. (She’s been subjected to hearing my voice for quite awhile already… poor thing!)

Hey, Jumpin’ Bean!

Our baby’s rolling around and practically doing calisthenics today…. I actually had to sit down while loading our washing machine because she’d started to move so much it was getting uncomfortable (not painful, just goofy!)

At this rate, it should just be a couple weeks before Justin can feel her move by putting his hand on my abdomen!

Today’s OB Checkup

This morning’s checkup with my OB/gyn went well. My weight gain is on track for this stage of pregnancy (8-10 lbs.) and the baby’s heartrate is still a strong 160 beats per minute (bpm). We reviewed the images from my October 26th ultrasound and everything looks good — baby’s heart, brain, kidneys, diaphram, size and growth. The only thing my OB did mention is my placenta is low-lying and in the front, which at this stage of pregnancy is not in-and-of-itself a concern. The uterus is still small at this stage and so there’s really not that much room for the baby and placenta, so it’s apparently fairly routine to note a low-lying placenta. It is, however, enough to warrant a follow-up ultrasound, so I will be getting another performed around 28 weeks (9 weeks from now). I have to pay 10% for ultrasounds, so from that standpoint it’s a bummer, but I look forward to seeing the baby again at 28 weeks; she’ll be even bigger and more active by then!

Niece & Nephew Photos

Justin’s brother, Jason, just updated his kiddos’ websites (our niece and nephew), and the photos are so cute I just had to share them. Check out the Halloween pictures, especially!

Pickle!

Me: “Can you get me a pickle while you’re down there?”

Him: “Another pickle? Are you sure you want to do that? I don’t think you’re allowed another pickle!”

Me: {indignant pause} “Oh, come on! There is no documented ‘pickle limit’! Give me my pickle!

Him: O-kaaay. Zero calories. Zero fat. Just 400 grams of sodium!

Me: Pickle!

Without Further Ado

Justin and I finally took a little time to do some proper “belly portraits” this evening after he returned home from teaching his photography class. This is my favorite of the series he took this evening:
