Alive & Well, Just Quiet

I realized I was going on almost a full week without updates, which while quite understandable with a 3-month-old is a longer absence than I’d like. My blog is the only thing that made it possible for me to update Sara’s baby book with accurate details of the last three months; it’s basically “off-site storage” for my brain these days!

Juxtaposition

I’m spent most of my life in San Antonio, Texas — home to the Alamo, the Riverwalk and the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs. I’m not really into sports, other than the Olympics or the Tour de France; even then, I routinely miss match-ups or days that a true fan would never dream of missing. It’s just not a major force in my life. I’m a fair weather fan of the San Antonio Spurs and the Dallas Cowboys, only aware of their performance when they get into the Finals or head to the Superbowl. I enjoy the games when I watch them, but just don’t have the gene that makes sports that compelling hour after hour, either in person or televised. That being said – GO SPURS GO!

One Step Back

Well, we haven’t graduated to the crib overnight yet. In fact, we’re still co-sleeping about 50% of each night and the rest of the time Sara sleeps in her bassinet by our bed. I think the smaller confines of the bassinet keep her cozier for now than the more spacious crib. In the crib, she’ll only sleep about 1.5 to 2 hours at a stretch; the bassinet has yielded 3 or 4 hours of sleep. This kiddo still likes to nurse throughout the night so we’re up late (midnight or later) and every 2 hours until at some point she sleeps for 3 or 4 straight hours ’til sun-up.

Crib Notes

Last night was the third night of our attempted migration of Sara from our bed to her crib, with the second night having been aborted by 2:30 AM. Last night went much better, though once again the price of getting Sara to sleep in her crib is less sleep for me (but I slept in, so nyah!) hehe

Crib Notes:

  • Put Sara down in the crib at 1:15 AM
  • At 3:48 AM, Sara woke up and started crying. Nursed and cuddled her for 1 hour, putting her back in the crib at 4:48 AM (she was still awake and “squeaky”)

Baby Steps…

Last night, my need for sleep won out over my attempt to get Sara through another full night in her crib in the nursery. I can’t remember when I finally got her to sleep last night, but when she awoke at 2:30 AM this morning needing a feeding that was that. I was nodding off while nursing her sitting up in bed, and quickly opted for what’s gotten us through every night prior — side-lying position breastfeeding, in bed, co-sleeping.
