60 Minutes

Yes, 60 minutes on the rowing machine last night after Sara and I visited my parents. Per the rowing machine’s on-board “computer”, that burned 486 calories. More than the caloric burn, though, it’s just a nice milestone because 60 minutes has always been the maximum duration of my rowing machine workouts, even when I was physically fit. So, being able to do that now, while overweight and exhausted with an almost 4-month-old, is golden; anything is possible!

Sara and I slept in this morning — I swear she sleeps better the more I exercise (no correlation, but still funny) — and I’m feeling pretty good.

35 Minutes

That’s how long I spent on the rowing machine this evening (Wednesday, I mean; I haven’t gone to sleep yet, so even though it’s 3 AM 4:20 AM 5:30 AM Thursday it feels wrong to say “last night”). Anyhow, it worked out well — Justin and I watched an episode of Star Trek: TNG while Sara slept in her downstairs swing and I did my 35 minutes on the rowing machine. Not too shabby, eh? The rower reported I burned a paltry 259 calories but that’s just a ballpark… it’s nothing compared to the 1,600 calories Justin burned on his nearly 2-hour-long 25+ mile bike ride after work on Tuesday, but it’s a start for this nursing momma who doesn’t own a road bike yet. I work up a considerable sweat at about the twenty minute mark into my rowing, so I don’t think I’m on too low of a setting for my (current) abilities.

Movin’ Along

I got my butt moving on Sunday evening and did 30 minutes on our indoor rowing machine, burning roughly 236 calories (I only had it on 40% difficulty; I will amp that up as I get back into the swing of things.) It’s a far cry from Justin’s 1,000+ calorie burning long road cycling rides, but it’s a good start and something I can do late at night when I can’t enlist anyone to watch Sara. As it was, I had to wake Justin up at 10:40 PM so he could watch Sara while I showered, since she’d been asleep in her downstairs swing for over an hour, and I wasn’t about to wake her up to put her in her crib (with monitor) upstairs. That turned out to be a wise idea, because she slept for over 3 hours in the downstairs swing last night before we migrated upstairs to bed!

This is Why Sleep is Irrelevant

Who needs sleep when you have this beauty with you 24/7?

Thank you, “Aunt” AnnMarie for the gorgeous 3-6 mos. outfit which Sara now fills out quite well, as you can see! She loved wearing it, too, since the belt tassles were great fun to play with in her hands!

And here’s one last photo for today, this one showing Justin and Sara already have quite a good father/daughter bond forged. They light each other up!

Goal-Setting

I used to work with someone who’s personal mantra was “Goals are dreams with deadlines,” and in that spirit I’m giving myself a deadline to get my present whale-rific body back to more healthful, desirable proportions.

Hybrid Love in the News

“Al Gore’s son was arrested early Wednesday on suspicion of possessing marijuana and prescription drugs after deputies pulled him over for speeding, authorities say.”
– CNN

Police: Gore’s son pulled over while driving about 100 mph in a Toyota Prius. (URL fixed, sorry!)

I just had to laugh out loud… busted for drugs and speeding, but at least Gore’s son did it in a PRIUS!

I’m not condoning drug use, but this is just classic. You KNOW you’re in the mainstream when people are committing crimes with your vehicle as their getaway car!
