Miss Sara Has a ‘tude

Sara is definitely entering a new phase of development, and what’s developing is her independence and attitude (’tude, for short.)  Oh, she’s still gorgeous and lovable and wonderful, but there’s this other side to her that we’re starting to experience. She says something like “Naw!” forcefully while pushing the bottle away when she’s finished, and she’s strong enough to knock it out of your hands if you don’t have a great grip on the thing! She also has tantrums now when she doesn’t want to go to sleep… not the little baby fussy bit, but full-on, wow-she-really-means-business tantrums (which thankfully wear her out and mean when she does go down, it’s usually for a good while.)  She also lets you know when she’s bored or, alternately, wants a different toy(s) than what you’ve provided in reaching/lunging distance.

Allergies, Again, Ugh!

Spent the day in bed, mostly with Sara (Justin entertained, fed and diapered her for much of the day–thank you, babe,) sleeping and trying to breathe through once-again allergy-clogged sinuses. I’m so damned sick of this… every 2-3 days I’m back to feeling like a trainwreck, then I have this tempting 24-hour or less reminder of what it feels like to be a healthy human again, then rinse, repeat.

Full disclosure: Yes, I know I’m 23 minutes late with my daily post… that’s got to count for a November 23 entry, so that’s what it’s getting time stamped as.

Happy Thanksgiving

I hope each of you reading this had a splendid Thanksgiving Day, and that you have an equally wonderful weekend. Justin, Sara and I shared the day with my parents and my brother, at my parents’ house.

We had a terrific day, but are all feeling the effects of eating so much good food!

Little Victories

* I’m feeling much better this week, although I still spent most of the day treading water to keep my head afloat.

* The weather station my parents bought Justin last year, which we didn’t install until several months ago, is working again–just in time to log the changing weather as a cold front entered South Texas this evening. The weather station had inexplicably stopped reporting any outdoor data (wind speed and direction, temperature and humidity, rainfall) on the 11th, and I thought I’d ruined it somehow when I buried some cables for it (so no one accidentally runs over them with our lawn mower.) Now to pipe that data over to The Weather Underground, when I get a chance!

Power of Google, Indeed

Hehe… I just Googled a variation of “baby head shaking Stevie Wonder” and, like this mother, had to grin — you really can find anything on Google.

By the way, the mom didn’t link to the specific Babble.com article she was referring to–that’s located here.

For the record, yes, Sara has a new habit of shaking her head back and forth like Stevie Wonder… not a lot, but enough that Justin, I and others had commented on it. I am proud to say, however, that neither Justin nor I thought she was possessed or attempting to ward off legions of unseen Horde (sorry, had to work a random World of Warcraft (WoW) reference in there even though I haven’t played it in ages…*)
* {whisper} Yet, Justin and I are too geeky to cancel our ridiculously-priced accounts in case we ever get time to play again.{/whisper}

Pump Shock

This isn’t a gloat, just an observation–
The downside of owning a hybrid gasoline-electric vehicle? When the gas prices continually rise, it’s especially jarring because you only refuel once a month (if that, depending on your commute), which means the price you last paid, and the price you’re paying today, are often quite far removed from one another.
