Inner Geek = Happy

I haven’t had anything to say so I haven’t been blogging much, and I haven’t missed it. I’ve been posting new stuff to Flickr, but even that’s been a little slow going (some videos & more pics in queue to go up), and Twitter’s received most of my (limited) attention lately. Twitter’s forced 140 characters seem right up my alley lately, even if it does result in some hideous abbreviations (my apologies to ALL of my English teachers and professors over the course of my formal education!)

Twitter’s Offline?

If a bird chirps in the forest and no one’s around to hear it, is it really chirping at all?

Sorry, just bastardizing a quote since it appears Twitter.com is borked/totally offline. I can’t access it by HTTP or Twhirl (a Twitter desktop client). I guess it’s a testament to how much I’ve been using it lately, because there are a few things I want share with people, but can’t until the bird that is Twitter regains consciousness after a clearly nasty fall.

Justin and Sara are fast asleep, and my eyelids are getting very, veeery heavy, so it’s probably for the best that Twitter’s not up.

Tweeting vs. Blogging

I’ve found that as my time gets stretched in more directions, it’s far easier to post short (maximum 140 characters) “tweets” on Twitter.com and avoid blogging altogether. I’m not saying it’s a good thing, but it is what it is. I’m making some great contacts, not just professionally but other moms and fellow geek gals or outdoors enthusiasts, folks trying to lose weight, etc. Twitter was even fun on our camping trip, even when Sara and Justin had to leave I had folks tweeting to me that they had enjoyed the camping pics thus far, or that we looked like we were having a terrific time (we were, up until 3 AM!)

A What is the World Coming to Moment

Sadly, we all have these more often than we probably want to admit–a “what is the world coming to?” moment.

I’m having one at this moment–
My mother-in-law’s primary care physician was gunned down (killed) Friday at work, not far from where we live. Initial report — MySA.com: Metro | State

Updated report after investigation (no less tragic or senseless) — MySA.com: Metro | State — the killer is in the hospital, still breathing; a San Antonio Police Department officer had to shoot him.

First Family TENT Camping Trip

Justin and I tent camped a lot when we were dating as well as the first several years of our marriage, before we got busy. Before Sara was born, we resolved that Sara would grow up exposed to camping and the outdoors from the start. So we’ve gradually been easing her into camping, first a cabin “camping” trip to Buescher State Park near Austin, and this weekend, her first tent camping trip to Guadalupe River State Park.
