Turning Point

Note: This entry was actually started on MONDAY, July 28 –

It’s clear from my infrequent blog posts that I’ve been fighting “the crud” (sinus infection and, for awhile, lower respiratory infection) for months, really. About the time I’d get so fed up with it that I’d entertain going to the doctor, it would seem to abate, but only long enough to sneak up on me by the following weekend. When you have bad allergies (forget “seasonal”–these are omnipresent) you sometimes forget when you’ve crossed the line from “Geez, this is a horrible allergy season and I can’t remember the last time I felt really GOOD,” to “Geez, I feel really, utterly awful…the worst I have in a long time. And I don’t seem to ever being getting WELL.”

Still Alive

I promise, I’m still alive. I keep coming down with the same sinus infection or plague or whatever it is and taking weeks to get over it. I’ve been catching up on my reading, on my Kindle no less (which has been enjoyable!), as well as other assorted “low impact” things. Generally not much to blog about. Sara’s doing well, and yes we need to take some new photos of her that aren’t blurry, informal cameraphone pics. Message heard loud and clear.

Every day I’m more and more happy we bought our hybrid when we did (March 2006). This “Cathy” cartoon, for example, is probably far more true than it should be –

Moral Dilemma

Copied from my Twitter stream because I’m tired/lazy/busy:

* Wow. The dramatic hostage rescue that freed 15 FARC hostages from Colombia? [In the news agaion.] Talk about your moral dilemmas -> http://tinyurl.com/5qr699

* On the one hand, it’s that way to protect lives of aid workers & hostages. OTOH, 15 people were freed from upwards of 7 yrs in captivity…

* I’m not sure where I fall. Obviously it’s all hindsight now. Surely we have done things that were a little iffy in the name of rescues, too?

* (We=USA; apologies for my U.S.-centricism.)

Sweet Sixteen (Months)

Sara turned 16 months old today. Time sure flies! Will post more when I have a few braincells to rub together.

Nothing to See Here; Move Along…

Around 1:30 AM this morning, I decided I really ought to try to go to sleep. I’d been catching up on Twitter, researching and then buying 1TB internal hard disks for our small business, and playing a little World of Warcraft, but sleep sounded good. As luck would have it, 1:30 AM is also when Sara decided to wake up in an uber-combative mood. I dosed her with Tylenol (two more new teeth coming in, this time in her upper jaw) while Justin headed downstairs to get her some milk since she seemed especially hungry (growth spurt again?) While changing her diaper, doing so lazily with her in our bed, she managed to catch me off-guard and pee all over me and my side of the bed. Could have been worse, but, eww…

Sara Update

Sara has –
…still never been sick. I know, we’ve been incredibly, inexplicably LUCKY. There’s no other explanation. We are in for a major crisis the first time she actually *does* come down with something, since we’re completely untested in that arena!

…started saying more new words, including “yellow” and “beep, beep” and I could’ve sworn she said “pretty baby” recently (she’s got “baby” down pat, but pretty would be a new one.)

…continued to show a definite appreciation for music and a surprisingly good sense of rhythm considering she’s our offspring! She loves music, and she especially loves moving to it.
