Hurricane Ike

I don’t think there’s that much cross-pollination between my Wild Texas: Parks, Nature & Travel Guide website and here so I’m reposting some of the Ike information I’ve posted there as a blog entry to help/inform:

Freaky Radar Images

Radar image of Hurricane Ike’s eyewall as it made landfall on Galveston early this morning:

Ike apparently doesn’t like…Texas…literally showing his “face” as he nears landfall.

This one is moments before Ike's eyewall reached land, and also has an eerie appearance.

This radar view is moments before Ike’s eyewall reached land (so, earlier than the preceding radar image) and, equally eerie, it too has the appearance of a face inside the eye. I’m sure conspiracy theorists love this kinda shit. I just thought it was eerie.

Dear Veteran

It seems fitting to write this entry today, September 11, 2008, seven years after the Twin Towers fell and America’s “War on Terror” began. So much about our nation and world has changed since then, but one thing has not – We salute all who serve our country, especially first responders and those in the U.S. Armed Forces–Thank you! Without you, our lives would be immensely different.

Large Hadron Collider

In a deft (read: short on time) use of Twitter as blog entry, here are my tweets regarding the Large Hadron Collider which is coming online in a couple days and is receiving a lot of press:

  • reading about CERN’s Large Hadron Collider which comes online on Sept 10 -> http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/09/08/lhc.collider/index.html
  • There have been lawsuits against it & scientists on project have rcvd death threats… proof USA isn’t only place science edu = abysmal {{Added Later: Why the lawsuits? “Fears have emerged that the collider could produce black holes that could suck up anything around them — including the whole Earth. Such fears prompted legal actions in the U.S. and Europe….”}}

Random

Sense a trend here? I still haven’t gone back and fleshed out the entry for Sara turning 17 months old, and now her 18 month b-day will be within a week! Ah well, water under the bridge.

This post is for a couple reasons –

Pardon Me, I’ve Got Meme on My Shoe

A friend of ours tagged me with a meme and, rather than responding via email I figured I’d make a blog entry out of it. Just call me productive lazy.

Do you like blue cheese?
Yes, it’s my favorite salad dressing

Have you ever smoked?
No, never. I am allergic to cigarette smoke. But I have inhaled (second-hand), repeatedly. I grew up in a smoking household.

Do you own a gun?
No. And the only weapons I’ve ever shot are a BB gun and a bow & arrow. I used to be deadly with water balloons, however!
