Tweeting vs. Blogging

I’ve found that as my time gets stretched in more directions, it’s far easier to post short (maximum 140 characters) “tweets” on Twitter.com and avoid blogging altogether. I’m not saying it’s a good thing, but it is what it is. I’m making some great contacts, not just professionally but other moms and fellow geek gals or outdoors enthusiasts, folks trying to lose weight, etc. Twitter was even fun on our camping trip, even when Sara and Justin had to leave I had folks tweeting to me that they had enjoyed the camping pics thus far, or that we looked like we were having a terrific time (we were, up until 3 AM!)

First Family TENT Camping Trip

Justin and I tent camped a lot when we were dating as well as the first several years of our marriage, before we got busy. Before Sara was born, we resolved that Sara would grow up exposed to camping and the outdoors from the start. So we’ve gradually been easing her into camping, first a cabin “camping” trip to Buescher State Park near Austin, and this weekend, her first tent camping trip to Guadalupe River State Park.

One Year Well-Baby Checkup

Reposted from my geekgal.vox.com blog –

I’m not in a blogging mood, but Sara’s one year well-baby checkup went well and she’s doing awesome of course. One year without any illness–rock on, chicklet! She has either ringworm or nummular eczema (Her pediatrician wrote that down for me–I guess I had “gonna be Googling this ASAP” written all over my face when I asked him to repeat it.) I suspected ringworm, but honestly I’ve had ringworm and it didn’t quite fit the bill so I’m relieved it might be eczema that youngsters get. Ringworm (fungus) is so damned hard to kill/treat.

The Quickest Year of My Life!

I’ll have a proper entry here later, but this is of course to commemorate Sara’s first year on Earth. And, like any mother does, I kept track of the time and noted when her birth time had arrived, briefly reflecting back on where I was a year ago at that moment. Life has changed in so many ways, but I couldn’t have imagined how awesome–and how QUICKLY–this first year would be.

QotD: Tears of Joy

Another post stolen from my geekgal.vox.com blog and reposted here –

When was the last time you laughed so hard you cried?
Submitted by Maraschino.

Every.single.day, since Sara came into our lives. I am not kidding. The kid cracks me up. Ok, I’m lying, the first month or so might have been more hormone and sleep-deprivation-induced tears than those induced by laughter, but after that? Totally a daily occurrence… she’s got attitude, spunk, immeasurable curiosity and elation over the simplest things, and if that doesn’t get a laugh out of me, she gets physical… c’mon, who wouldn’t smile and laugh with abandon with this mug mashed against your face and a slobbery wet hand hugging you closer to her?

Bucket List

Reposted from my geekgal.vox.com blog, in response to their Question of the Day (QotD); this one’s a little heavy, but hey, my blogging can’t be all YouTube and TheOnion –

If you had one month to live, what five things would you do?
