Last Updated in APRIL?

Oops. So much for my personal blogging having longevity when I’m heavily involved in using social media (Twitter, Facebook, blip.fm, etc.)

I’ll try to get back on track by posting a “Where Have We Been” outline since there’s plenty of news that just never trickled back here for a blog entry. I’ve also done a truly underwhelming job of summarizing the NASA Tweetup experiences I have had the privilege of experiencing in November 2009 (STS-129 launch at KSC) and February 2010 (STS-130 mid-mission at Johnson Space Center, aka Mission Control – Houston.)

I’d usually throw in a “we’re all well — kidlet’s doing great, etc.” here but right now I’m on antibiotics and oral steroids to back down a sinus infection and we nearly had to take Sara to the ER today due to illness-induced dehydration. She see’s her pediatrician at 9AM today.

Good News

I’m so grateful to share that Dad’s home from the hospital as of 5 PM Monday (today) and is resting comfortably at home. He does have another eye surgery tomorrow (Tuesday) but at least he is free from his 12 DAYS in the hospital.

My family always hugs when we part. I highly recommend it…except it really, really sucks when one of us ends up in the hospital. Glad to have my Dad/Daughter Hug Meter restored/replenished.

No News is… Hmm… Well…

Dad’s in the hospital and has been since a week ago today (give or take some hours) when he experienced a bunch of symptoms, not the least of which being dizziness which caused a nasty, eye-injuring fall. ER ambulance trip and here we are a week later. Way too much to blog about, and no real inspiration to take stock until we have Dad back home in his own bed able to move about on his own and such.

Bits of updates and such are on my personal Twitter account (personal only insofar as it’s not my WildTexas.com account) and my Facebook page. Facebook’s more complete since I can be more verbose there, but even then, I’ve trailed off on updates there… mustered up all the positive, healing prayers and good vibes and that was really the only useful purpose for the updates, so repeating myself seems kinda…like repeating myself. ;-)

I apologize to everyone I’ve managed to (or may still–just to cover all the bases, LOL!) snap at, whine or complain to, ignore accidentally, etc., especially those closest to me: Mom, Jus, T. I know you understand as you feel much the same way, but I still wish I were a little more put together. I’ve had many offers from folks to watch Sara so I could visit Dad, but I’ve cashed in two important ones (Justin and his folks) and Mom, as much as I’d love to take you up on it, your place is most definitely with Dad and you’re (rightfully so) in no shape to watch a rambunctious 2-year-old after a day at Dad’s bedside.

GeekHabitat.com really isn’t my place just to vent or moan, but apologies as that is most definitely what it has become as of late. If NASA could ever get Endeavour launched, at least I could aim my blogging energies at an in-progress Space Shuttle mission again.

Wishing everyone within the pixels of my message a safe, happy and most of all healthy U.S. Independence Day. Hopefully, Dad will be healthy and home (in that order) soon.

Love to all,

- Shan

Unity

Sent this via email to a few folks, but wanted it on the blog as an entry, as well –

http://www.zefrank.com/from52to48withlove/

A cute/refreshing site with photos people took/created showing unity among the electorate. The numbers of course represent the percentages of the popular vote that Obama (52%) and McCain (48%) garnered in the general election. The concept is simple — to move forward, we all have to work together, regardless of party or people.

Trust the Innocence of Youth

This is my all-time favorite photo from Barack Obama’s campaign –

See all the pics of The Next President of the United States of America posted on The Boston Globe’s website.

Also, if you haven’t seen them, please check out the behind-the-scenes photos of Obama and his family watching the election results on Election Day. Better still, he’s sharing them via Creative Commons on Flickr.com.

As he said in his acceptance speech (full text here) —

As Lincoln said to a nation far more divided than ours, “We are not enemies, but friends…though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection.” And to those Americans whose support I have yet to earn – I may not have won your vote, but I hear your voices, I need your help, and I will be your President too. — President-Elect of the United States of America, Barack Obama
